Scrivimi: burro@giancarloviali.it.
Come preferisci.
Impostazioni → I tuoi dati.
Write to me: burro@giancarloviali.it. I usually reply within a few days. If something is broken, tell me which iPhone you have and what you were doing: that's almost always enough to work it out.
Burro doesn't only count what you ate: it also estimates how much you've already burned, minute by minute, and shows the difference right now. At the start of the day you're nearly even, and the number grows as the hours go by. Other apps usually show calories left against a fixed daily total, which is a different question.
At first it's off by about ten percent, because it starts from a formula using height, weight, age and sex. After at least two weeks of logged meals and a few weigh-ins, Burro compares the deficit it calculated with your actual weight trend and corrects itself: from then on it works on your number, not the formula's.
Check that you granted access: Settings → Health, inside Burro. If you already did and still see nothing, look in the Health app → Sharing → Apps → Burro. If more than one app records your workouts, Burro asks which one to count, so the same movement isn't counted twice.
Products come from Open Food Facts, a free database built by volunteers: it doesn't have everything. If a product is missing you can write it once yourself — it stays in your own library, and next time you scan that code Burro uses your version without asking anyone.
Yes. In the Add search field, write it the way you'd say it — "two rusks, jam and a coffee" — and Burro splits it into items with their quantities, looking them up in your foods and in the app's catalog. Before logging you see what it understood and fix what's off. With Siri: "Log a meal in Burro". Where Apple Intelligence is available, the model running on your phone helps read it: the text never leaves the device.
The meals you repeat: the same things at the same meal on a few days in the last month. Burro recognizes them on its own, puts them at the top of Recent, and you log them in one tap. You can also save a meal from your diary as a usual meal, with a name; if you no longer need one, "Remove from Usual meals".
Open it from the day strip in Today and tap "Fill in": Burro fills it with your usual meals, and you remove or fix whatever was different that day. A half-logged day doesn't count towards calibration.
They're off until you turn them on, in Settings → Reminders: one comes when you skip a meal you usually log, the other in the evening if the day looks incomplete. Notification permission is asked only then. They're prepared on your phone, with no server involved; from a skipped-meal one, "As usual" logs the meal without opening the app.
From the barcode, when Open Food Facts knows it; otherwise from its name, compared with the catalog; and where Apple Intelligence is available, from the model running on your phone. It's only a suggestion: change it in the food with one tap.
Basic ingredients come from the Anses Ciqual food composition table (2025), published under an open licence; fruit and vegetable portion weights come from USDA FoodData Central. Recipes have no values of their own: Burro calculates them from the ingredients, so if you correct one, the recipe updates by itself.
Either. A serving is your share of the pot. To log by weight Burro needs to know how much the finished dish weighs — cooked pasta weighs more than dry pasta: the cookbook estimates it, and if you weigh the pot when it's done and write it in the recipe, grams become exact.
The diary travels through your own iCloud. Check in Settings → Your data that syncing shows as on: if it doesn't, it tells you why. You need the same iCloud account as the old phone.
What you do every day stays free: logging, scanning, searching, today's ring, the last two weeks of your diary, the math, iCloud. Burro Plus — one purchase, once, no subscription — unlocks history and the diary beyond the last two weeks, macro-aware suggestions, three more widgets, four more color schemes, and the live balance on your Lock Screen, with Repeat and +1. If you change phone, "Restore purchase" on the Burro Plus page gets it back.
Settings → Your data. There you can export your diary as CSV and a complete JSON archive, or delete: the diary alone, or everything. Deleting the app removes the data on the device; to remove the iCloud copy as well, system Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Burro.
Burro is not a medical device and gives no health advice: the numbers it shows are estimates. For a diet or a health concern, the person to ask is a doctor or a dietitian.
